Nothing worthy of note has been happening in my life, in case anyone is wondering. Work and school and time with the wife. Trying to play songs and not doing well. Restrung my pink bass. Gonna restring my pink guitar. Write a song about a robot. Put on my socks. Go to the wifes parents house. Come home. Play some video games. Watch some TV. Write a book report. Pet the cats. Go to sleep. Go to work. Go home. Cook the wife dinner. Or she’ll cook for me. I am a technophile. I always want new shiny things. That’s all.

I am in love with the album Every Scene Needs a Center by Tullycraft. Buy it, download it, do anything. get it. It is perfection.

Pop songs

Monday, October 15th, 2007

These are the top 5 modern pop albums ever, as decided by me.

5 - Tullycraft - The Singles
Yeah, it’s a compilation album of sorts. So what? Every song on this album is great. I don’t remember when I first heard Tullycraft, but I’ll be damned if they aren’t one of the best bands around right now. The glittery twang of their twee pop sound is great. Many of the songs just hit you with this wall of pop goodness that you can’t ignore. The music is awesome, and Sean Tollefson’s vocals can’t be beat. A band worthy of a place on any top-pop list.
Top tracks: Superboy and Supergirl, Pink Lemonade, Bailey Park, Josie, 8 Great Ways

4 - The Postal Service - Give Up
The Postal Service played in Chicago at the Fireside Bowl one time. It was suggested to me by a friend that I go, but I didn’t get a chance to go. That sucks. Give Up is a great album that no indie pop fan should be without. Sure, Such Great Heights is everywhere in TV/Radio commercials, but it is still a beautiful song. And We Will Become Silhouettes has to be one of the best pop songs ever written.
Top tracks: Such Great Heights, Nothing Better, Clark Gable, We Will Become Silhouettes

3 - Mountain Goats - Tallahassee
John Darnielle is a lyrical genius. The lo-fi sound of the older Mountain Goats albums melts my mind into a quivering pile of goo, and I love it. That’s not to say the not-quite-as-lo-fi sound of his more recent albums isn’t grand as well. It is. John Darnielle has done something few people before him have done - cranked out album after album of great songs. Every Mountain Goats album is a work of art, but none moreso in my opinion than Tallahassee.
Top tracks: First Few Desperate Hours, No Children, See America Right, Old College Try, Oceanographer’s Choice

2 - Go Sailor - Go Sailor
Rose Melberg (Tiger Trap, The Softies) has a voice made of pure awesome. Plus it’s got Paul Curran of Crimpshrine (one of the best bands ever) playing bass. Go Sailor has an amazing sound that I wish I could duplicate, but as I do not have a sweet female voice, nor good bass skills, I never will. Which makes me love them all the more.
Top tracks: Together Forever in Love, Ray of Sunshine, The Boy Who Sailed Around The World, I’m Still Crying

1 - The Mr. T Experience - Alcatraz
Anyone that knows me should have known that I was going to pick this magnificent album as my #1 pop album of all time. Every song on it is fantastic. I remember the first time I heard the album, I didn’t like it. I was way too into the punkier side of The Mr T Experience. I had been listening to Everyone’s Entitled to Their Own Opinion and Night Shift at the Thrill Factory way too much. Both fantastic albums in their own right (especially Night Shift, which ties with Alcatraz as my favorite MTX album) but they don’t fit on this list. Listening to it now however, I just adore it. Dr. Frank has the best way with lyrics.
Top tracks: All of them. But I guess I’ll pick a few. Naomi, Self-Pity, Hey Emily, Perhaps, I Feel for You

Instead it is about EXCITE TRUCK. the video game. the video game made of pure awesome. a game everyone should play.

start the game, pick your track, pick your truck, and you are off. speeding down dirt roads, slamming into your competitors, flying off high cliffs and soaring through the sky, slamming back on the ground in just the right position so you get a speedboost, slamming into your competitors again, sailing through trees trying not to crash, second lap, do it all again. love every second of it.
I feel the EXCITE.
